Thank you for checking out Crisp! I hope you’ve learned a little about my services, like general editing and website cleanup. If you have a piece of writing you’d like polished, just let me know! I love helping any written passage—from official to informal, corporate to personal—look its best.
On the blog, I’ll be discussing matters of grammar, usage, language, and writing more in depth. You should know now that I’m no academic! I’m a (so-called) descriptivist rather than prescriptivist; I think our ever-changing language is fun and fascinating rather than a portent of civilization’s end; and I’d rather break some rules in the name of easing reader comprehension than try to stuff everything into the same mold. In these posts, I’ll try to explain why I think a certain choice in, say, punctuation or spelling is better, but I’ll always leave room for the opposing opinion. (Which reminds me, that’s one thing you might not know about the rules of English: most of them come down to opinion or arbitrary decisions long forgotten!)
I’m also happy to answer your questions to the best of my ability. Please feel free to write me about anything language-related—capitalization, spelling, hyphenation, verb tense, tone, and on and on. I might not know the answer, but I bet I’ll know where to look. Every so often I’ll gather these questions into an advice column–style Q&A post.
Thank you again for visiting my site and my blog. I look forward to talking more about the crazy, gorgeous mess that is the English language. Happy writing!
